Riain is Universal Distro's go-to photographer. Most of our best images were captured by her highly trained, and very dexterous, trigger finger.
| Q What's your favorite thing about be a photographer? |
| A I love taking pictures. I love looking at things in such a specific way, thinking about light and framing and expression. I feel like I get to see people differently, and it's such a pleasure. I also love the sound my camera shutter makes (always have). |
| Q If you could do a photo shoot with anyone, anywhere; who, and where would it be? |
| A I love taking pictures of my friends and family. I also have a thing for Montana and South Dakota. So, the obvious answer is taking a bunch of my friends and family on a road trip to the mountains and badlands, and taking lots of pictures. |

Q What was the first piece of art you remember creating?
A I remember those plastic plates you could 'make art' on, and then they'd suddenly be useful objects that you could put in the dishwasher. Those were cool. I was little when I made my first one, and I think I drew some very attractive stick figures.
| Q Who's your favorite photographer? |
| A Well, I have too many to pick just one, but my FIRST favorite was Imogen Cunningham. She was born in 1883, and lived to be almost 100. I adore her portraits, and her pictures of plants, and especially her nudes. She even photographed her husband naked in the woods around 1915, which was a big deal back in the day. She's actually from here (Seattle, WA), but moved down to the Bay Area as an adult, and carried her 8x10 view camera around the streets of San Francisco, photographing what interested her up until the very end. Her pictures are quiet and beautiful. |
| Q What inspires, or motivates, you to create art? |
| A I can't seem to help myself. |

Q Did you ever shoot with non digital equipment?
A Yes, I grew up as an analog photographer. I finally switched to digital when the color darkroom I used to print my color negs was closed down. There's one more color darkroom in the city (Seattle), but I'd have to pay for it, and at the time it made more sense to switch systems. That was a freaking sad day. As many benefits as the digital process has (and there are many), I miss printing in a darkroom. Plus, the print quality of analog is still better.
